From Concept to Living Room: A Custom Fluted Marble Fireplace Surround, Installed

Every custom fireplace surround starts as an idea on a screen — and ends, if everything goes right, as the centerpiece of someone's living room. This month, one of our US clients sent us exactly that ending: a photo of their finished install, along with three words that make every step of the process worth it.

"Installed! Looks great!" — that's the whole message. No long paragraph needed. The photo said the rest.

Who Made It: Xinyesheng Sculpture

This surround was designed and produced by Xinyesheng Sculpture, a Jiangsu-based manufacturer specializing in stone, bronze, and metal sculpture and architectural stonework — including fireplaces, mantels, statues, and garden features. The company runs its own production facility rather than outsourcing carving work to third parties, which keeps design intent, tolerances, and finishing consistent from the first render to the final polish.

The team combines an in-house design and R&D group with hand-carving craftsmanship built up over more than a decade, and works across materials — marble, bronze, stainless steel, and fiberglass — so a single client project, like a fireplace paired with matching garden statuary, can be produced under one roof instead of split across multiple vendors.

The Design Concept

The project began with a 3D concept render: a bold, architectural mantel with a fluted inner surround and clean, squared-off outer moulding. The fluting was designed to catch light along the vertical ribs, giving the piece texture and depth without relying on ornate carving — a modern take on a classical fireplace silhouette. Every dimension, reveal, and edge profile was locked in at this stage so the finished piece would match the client's fireplace insert and hearth opening exactly.

Carved and Finished at Our Factory

From concept to stone, the mantel was hand-finished at our production yard, where each fluted panel and moulded edge is shaped and checked against the original design before it ever leaves our facility. The fluted inner legs alone required dozens of individually cut, evenly spaced grooves — the kind of detail that's easy to render on a screen but takes real skill to execute consistently in solid stone.

Installed and Loved

The finished surround was shipped to the customer's home in the US and installed around their fireplace insert. Even mid-renovation — with floor protection paper and packing materials still scattered around the room — the mantel's proportions and fluted detail were already doing their job, anchoring the space as the room's clear focal point.
