Grid-Mesh World Globe Stainless Steel Sculpture

This sculpture takes a different construction approach from its hollow-cut companion piece, welding a complete latitude-and-longitude tube grid from 304/316 stainless steel to form the globe's overall spherical cage structure, then fitting solid, mirror-polished continental panels into the appropriate positions within that grid framework. Welding dozens of curved tube sections into a precisely aligned latitude-longitude grid requires exacting measurement and jigging to ensure the finished cage reads as a true sphere rather than an irregular, lopsided structure, after which the solid continental panels must be individually shaped to follow the sphere's curvature exactly where they meet the surrounding grid lines.

The resulting structure presents continents as solid, reflective landmasses suspended within an open, airy tube framework representing the planet's coordinate grid, a visually distinct interpretation of the globe motif that emphasizes structural transparency and lightness even more strongly than the fully hollow-cut alternative design. This grid-cage construction allows exceptional light transmission through the sphere, with sunlight passing freely between the tube sections during the day and base-mounted lighting producing a particularly striking illuminated effect after dark, when the grid structure itself becomes clearly visible as a glowing geometric framework. Offered with sphere diameter from 1.5 to 6 meters, the piece scales effectively from a modest entrance feature to a substantial landmark sphere.
